Property Description: REMARKABLE PROPERTY LOCATED ON THE SOLOMON RIVER - PLENTY OF SCRAPES AND RUBS!This tract is made up of 137 acres with 97 of those acres in row crops (soybeans for the 2009 season).  40 acres of wooded stream in accretion ground, this property has the right habitat to attract the big ones. This area has always had a reputation of holding some bruisers. In fact, this awesome river property is situated 14 miles due east of Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge where in 2006 a 231 0/8 inch non-typical whitetail was taken with a bow.  Can you image that Monarch walking under your stand? Big deer are common in Kansas, especially along the rivers. The owner is also boasting about the number of turkey's on this property not to mention the good upland opportunities to hunt here as well.  Both pheasants and quail to be found. The pheasant population is coming back up on this property and the quail has some pretty good numbers.Although the whitetail and mule deer range overlap in Smith County, this river property is better suited for whitetail. The timber and stream corridor will concentrate whitetail deer and serve as a travel corridor during the rut. Whitetail will use the area year around, especially as the soybeans leaf out and later in the season when the pods ripen. Some mule deer may use this property late in winter, but generally they will occupy a different habitat within the surrounding landscape. In the past the Kansas Dept. of Wildlife  allowed up to six whitetail deer tags for this unit- one antlered and five antlerless permits - to be purchased (see KDWP regulations for more detail at http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/hunting/big_game/deer/deer_faq). I expect similar limits for the upcoming season. One of the great attractions to hunting Kansas is the anticipation of encountering a mid-west monster. With its unique deer hideaways nestled comfortably along the wooded draws of the Solomon River, crop fields, and grass lined ridges, this farm is another example why Kansas is the place to be. Look closely at this farm if you pursue really mature whitetails. If you need a place to stay while hunting, see Monty at the Buckshot Inn in Smith Center, KS. Call him at (785) 282-6644 or (800) 727-7332.  Otherwise the owner is accommodating with a place to park or camp during hunting season. 5 hunters max on lease. ATV's allowed for hunting purposes only. Respect to crop ground and pasture is a must. $2 million in hunting liability insurance included in lease price. Outfitters / Guides must carry additional insurance. Please note: Because so many deer exit in this area the landowner reserves the right to fill one or two muzzleloader tags muzzle loader tag every two years or so.
